Opposition mounts against controversial landfill proposal

During a recent government meeting, community concerns regarding a proposed landfill in Clintonburg were prominently voiced by local landowner Robert Bishop. Bishop, representing Palpatine County, expressed strong opposition to the landfill, emphasizing its proximity to residential areas and historical sites, including Pine Grove School, which he noted is only about 1,000 yards from the proposed site.

Bishop highlighted that the current landfill proposal differs significantly from earlier plans made six or seven years ago, urging officials to reconsider the implications of the new right-of-way and access routes. He pointed out that the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has identified numerous challenges associated with the landfill, yet he criticized the local government's apparent satisfaction with the current proposal.

In his remarks, Bishop underscored the importance of community investment in the committee opposing the landfill, stating that significant financial resources have been allocated to address the issue. He concluded by expressing gratitude for the committee's efforts and reiterated the need for continued scrutiny of the landfill proposal, which has faced opposition from residents for several years.
