New school funding sparks hope for Oahuahi community

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed significant developments regarding the construction of a new school in OahuI and improvements to playgrounds and fields across the district.

Matt Stockey reported on the pre-bid meeting for the OahuI School project, noting a disappointing turnout that led to the extension of the bid opening date to the 13th of next month. The design phase is complete, and the project is set to proceed within the constraints of the AB 519 funding, ensuring that the school will be built without exceeding the allocated budget.

Additionally, district leaders addressed the rising costs associated with playground and field improvements, which have traditionally relied on fundraising efforts from schools. With fundraising becoming increasingly challenging, the district has committed to providing financial support to selected schools each year. This year, Tuscarora School is among the beneficiaries, set to receive funding for new grass and a sprinkler system, bolstered by their successful fundraising efforts, including a Christmas auction.

These initiatives reflect the district's proactive approach to enhancing educational facilities and supporting schools in their efforts to provide better environments for students.
