City launches innovative Beach Toy Library for families

During a recent government meeting, officials approved the minutes from the July 3 meeting and discussed several project updates and new initiatives.

The completion of the Washington to the Park bandstand project was highlighted, with a successful ribbon-cutting ceremony held on July 6 that attracted over 80 attendees. The project, which took three years to complete, featured complimentary refreshments from Carlson's Drive In and a performance by the Munich band.

In addition, progress on the Water Tower Park project was reported, with approximately 35% of the work completed, primarily focused on earthwork and the installation of amenities such as a parking lot and basketball courts.

A new initiative, the Beach Toy Library, was proposed to enhance recreational opportunities at the beach. This program aims to provide a space for families to borrow toys for their children while visiting the beach, with the library located in the Feathers Alley area to minimize tampering. The proposal received enthusiastic support from council members, and a motion to approve the initiative was unanimously carried.

The meeting also touched on plans for a summer comedy jam featuring four comedians. However, due to contractual issues with the event promoter, the discussion was tabled until the next meeting. The event is intended to be an adult-oriented show, with considerations for marketing and potential venue changes in case of inclement weather.

Officials confirmed that parking operations will continue through Labor Day, with plans to remain open on weekends throughout September, contingent on staffing and weather conditions. The meeting concluded with a commitment to enhance community engagement through entertainment and recreational programs.
