School committee offers hot air balloon ride to staff

During a recent school committee meeting, members reported on various community initiatives and upcoming events. Notably, the committee has sponsored a hot air balloon ride for two as part of their support for the upcoming hot air balloon festival, scheduled for August 16-18. Since no committee members expressed interest in the ride, it will be offered to Lewiston Public Schools employees. Interested staff must email the committee by July 26, with a drawing to be held at the August 12 meeting to determine the winner.

Superintendent updates indicated that operations are progressing smoothly, with no significant changes since the previous week. Additionally, a city council workshop is set for the following day, focusing on recruitment for a new city administrator and discussions regarding business licensing for homeless shelters.

In community announcements, it was highlighted that Healthy Neighborhoods is seeking volunteers for their bulky waste cleanup events in the Tree Streets neighborhood, scheduled for the first Friday and Saturday of each month. The next events will take place in August and September, with volunteers receiving T-shirts for their participation.

Lastly, the Lewiston Public Schools will host a summer outreach backpack event on August 22 from 3 to 6 PM at the Longley campus, featuring various activities and a barbecue. The meeting concluded with no new agenda items proposed before adjournment.
