Youth Council Launches Dream Project to Inspire Future Generations

During a recent government meeting, the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council presented their ambitious \"Dream Project,\" aimed at inspiring local youth to set and pursue their goals. Chair Ava Golder outlined the initiative, which was developed in response to concerns about the challenges faced by young people in the community, particularly regarding their future aspirations.

The Dream Project, which runs from July 2023 to July 2024, began with an online survey targeting middle and high school students. The survey revealed significant anxiety among students about financial stability and their ability to achieve their dreams. In response, over 100 Lewiston public school employees volunteered to wear Dream Project pins, signaling their willingness to engage with students about their aspirations.

The council organized a community forum featuring local professionals who shared their success stories, reinforcing the message that dreams can be realized. Additionally, they distributed positive affirmation pens and designed bumper stickers to promote the idea that all ages can make their dreams a reality.

In a broader effort to support the community, the council also hosted a forum addressing substance use disorders and recovery, highlighting their commitment to the well-being of both youth and adults.

As the presentation concluded, Golder expressed a desire to extend the Dream Project's impact to elementary school children, emphasizing the importance of nurturing aspirations from a young age. The initiative reflects a proactive approach to fostering a supportive environment for youth in Lewiston, encouraging them to envision and work towards a brighter future.
