In a recent government meeting, officials discussed urgent repairs needed for the US 90 lift station, which has been experiencing significant issues. The lift station, built in 1962 and last repaired in 2020, serves approximately 550 acres of commercial and residential areas, including a hospital and several neighborhoods.
The situation escalated when a twelve-inch sewer line collapsed, leading to the shutdown of sewer services for the affected residential areas. The collapse also damaged the lift station's pumps, necessitating immediate emergency responses. City staff worked quickly to implement temporary measures, including a new access driveway and a temporary pump to manage sewage flow.
The repairs will require extensive work, including excavating 16 feet to identify and fix the underlying problems. Officials indicated that the repairs could take up to three weeks and may involve rerouting traffic, as the contractor initially expected assistance from TXU for traffic control, which was later rescinded. The estimated cost for the repairs is approximately $285,000.
City officials emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that the contractor has already mobilized on-site to begin the necessary work. The meeting underscored the critical nature of maintaining infrastructure to ensure the continued service of essential facilities in the community.
