Denton County honors women veterans with heartfelt recognition

During a recent Denton County Commissioners Court meeting, a heartfelt ceremony took place to honor women veterans in the community. The court recognized the contributions of local veterans, showcasing quilts made by members of the community, including those with personal connections to military service. Notably, one quilt measured an impressive 94 inches, crafted in tribute to a veteran who stands 6 feet 4 inches tall.

The event highlighted the involvement of various community members, including Gold Star families and veterans themselves, who participated in the quilting project. The quilts featured names, branches of service, and dates of service, serving as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by these individuals. The court expressed gratitude for the opportunity to honor these women, with a unanimous motion passed to proclaim their recognition.

Following the tribute to veterans, the meeting shifted focus to another significant issue: the recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Nisa Mohammed, along with colleagues, addressed the court to discuss the importance of raising awareness about elder abuse, emphasizing the need for community support and vigilance in protecting vulnerable populations.
