Championship glory celebrated as student athletes shine

In a recent celebratory meeting, school officials proudly recognized the achievements of eight exceptional student athletes who collectively captured 11 state championships this year, setting a new school record. The event highlighted individual accomplishments across various sports, showcasing the dedication and talent of these young competitors.

Among the honorees was Hadley Futch, an 11th-grade diving champion who narrowly clinched her title this year after finishing as runner-up in her sophomore year. Futch has committed to furthering her education at West Point, where she will join her sister, Brooke.

The winter sports season also brought notable successes, with the wrestling and weightlifting teams finishing second and third in the state, respectively. Elijah Penton, an 11th grader, was celebrated for his individual state championship win and plans to continue his athletic career at the US Naval Academy.

The female athletes were equally impressive, with Amy Burrell capturing her first state championship as a senior and planning to attend the University of Central Florida. Unity Brown, a two-time state champion in weightlifting, will pursue her athletic career at Iowa Central College. Alexandria Green, a four-time state champion and record holder in weightlifting, will continue her education at the University of North Florida.

Additionally, two wrestlers, Ryan Phillips and Jadon Robinson, were acknowledged for their upcoming national competitions, with Phillips heading to Campbell University and Robinson to NC State.

The meeting concluded with the recognition of Cody Taylor, the strongest weightlifter in Seminole County, who achieved two state titles this spring and will be attending Seminole State before transferring to UCF. The school community expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of these young athletes, celebrating their hard work and dedication to their sports and academics.
