City plans major sports complex amid budget challenges

City officials are now considering a budget range for the project, estimating costs between $4.76 million and $10.5 million, with a more realistic target around $7 million. They plan to establish a definitive budget by September 30, which will guide the project's next steps. The discussion also included the potential reallocation of funds from the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) to support the sports complex, with suggestions to move $2 million from the CRA budget to help meet the project's financial needs.

The meeting highlighted the urgency of finalizing funding and design plans, with a timeline suggesting that complete designs could be ready by October, allowing for bids to be solicited shortly thereafter. Officials emphasized the importance of delivering a fully functional facility that meets community needs while remaining within budget constraints.
