Residents rally against Causeley Zoo parking expansion plan

During a recent government meeting, a local resident voiced strong opposition to the proposed expansion of parking facilities at Causeley Zoo, a popular attraction in Wheaton. The resident, who has lived in the area for 50 years, expressed concerns about the necessity of additional parking, citing that the current lot rarely reaches full capacity.

The resident argued that the proposed parking lot on the east side of Gary Avenue would not only remain underutilized but would also have detrimental effects on the surrounding environment and community. They highlighted potential negative impacts on local ecology, property values, and the overall aesthetic of the neighborhood, emphasizing that the expansion could lead to invasive lighting and disturbances in the area.

Furthermore, the resident referenced a previously published master plan by the Wheaton Park District for future expansions, which, although currently rescinded, could be reintroduced at any time. They urged the council to consider placing the parking issue on the November ballot, advocating for a referendum that would allow Wheaton residents to voice their opinions on the matter.
