New leaders appointed for local schools in major shakeup

During a recent government meeting, five new administrative appointments were approved for various educational institutions, marking a significant step in leadership transitions within the district. The appointments include key positions at Barkstall Elementary, Booker T. Washington STEM Academy, Edison Middle School, and Centennial High School.

Caroline Martin was appointed as the new assistant principal at Barkstall Elementary, effective July 29. Martin, who has a background in special education, previously worked at Garden Hills Academy and holds a master's degree in educational leadership.

Abby Emroski will take on the role of assistant principal and summer school principal at Booker T. Washington STEM Academy, with her appointment effective immediately. Emroski has experience as a dean of students and has worked in various teaching roles since beginning her career in 2017.

Sean Flaherty was appointed as the middle school athletic director and dean of students at Edison Middle School, also effective immediately. Flaherty brings over two decades of educational experience and extensive coaching background to his new role.

Tamisha Carter will be promoted to assistant principal at Edison Middle School, effective July 25. Carter has held various teaching positions since 2009 and has been with the district since 2022 as a dean of students.

Lastly, Lakeisha Speight will serve as the dean of students at Centennial High School, with her appointment also effective July 25. Speight has transitioned from a school social worker to her new administrative role, bringing a wealth of experience from her previous positions.

The board unanimously approved these appointments, reflecting a commitment to enhancing leadership within the district's schools. The meeting concluded with a call for public comments, allowing community members to engage with the newly appointed administrators.
