King County proposes $172 million budget to tackle urgent needs

Council members raised concerns about the impact of the conclusion of federal fiscal relief programs, which could result in a loss of $20 million to $100 million for various county-funded services, including grants for small businesses and justice system programs. The meeting also addressed the need for additional funding for the sheriff's department and the restoration of a detective position in the civil unit, which handles evictions and related legal matters.

The council is set to vote on the 3rd omnibus, with the legislation moving to the full council for final passage. The process includes deadlines for line amendment submissions and a scheduled council meeting for possible action.
