Schools face staffing crisis as resignations surge

In a recent government meeting, officials provided an update on personnel changes within the district, highlighting significant turnover as the school year approaches. The report detailed a total of six retirements, including two non-union members and two paraeducators, alongside 22 resignations, predominantly from Unit A, which accounted for 13 of those departures. The meeting also noted 55 transfers, with the majority occurring within Unit A.

The personnel report indicated that movement within the district is notable, with three individuals fitting into this category. As the district prepares for the upcoming school year, concerns were raised about filling classroom positions, particularly in special education, where shortages are prevalent statewide.

Principals and hiring managers are reportedly employing creative strategies to address these staffing challenges, focusing not only on classroom roles but also on building-based positions. The district anticipates another significant round of personnel changes to be reported in August, reflecting ongoing efforts to stabilize staffing levels as the new school year approaches.
