Power Outages Spark Urgent Call for Better Communication

Tatum expressed a commitment to work closely with CenterPoint to improve their messaging, stating that clearer information would help residents make necessary plans, especially in extreme heat. \"If I know my power is going to be out until Friday, I can make better plans for my family,\" Tatum noted, stressing the importance of timely updates for families affected by outages.

Councilor McCarter also shared her frustrations, recounting the relief felt when a local hospital regained power and the installation of generators at traffic lights to enhance safety. She reassured constituents that council members have been actively engaged in addressing the community's needs, despite delays in responding to individual emails.

Both council members reiterated their dedication to restoring power and improving the response systems in place, acknowledging the urgency of the situation as storms become more frequent. The council plans to continue advocating for better service and communication from utility providers to ensure residents can effectively manage during outages. A public hearing is scheduled for July 25th at the Public Utility Commission in Austin to further discuss these issues.
