Diversity initiative aims to transform Haverhill schools

During a recent government meeting, discussions centered on advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the Haverhill school system. The meeting highlighted the ongoing efforts to implement the JBB clause from the MASC, which emphasizes community involvement and the importance of belonging in educational policies.

Dr. Marotta introduced community school personnel to present their insights, aligning with the district's goal of creating a DEI policy that reflects the community's diversity. The aim is to move beyond theoretical frameworks and establish actionable steps that define the district's identity through a diversity lens.

Attorney Maglucha, a member of the diversity subcommittee, expressed optimism about the progress being made. He noted the importance of engaging community partners to support DEI initiatives and to serve as resources for diversifying the district's staff. Currently, there is a significant disparity between the demographics of the student body and the staff, which does not adequately reflect the cultural backgrounds of the students.
