Youngest Mayor in History Takes Office in Edgewater

In a historic and whimsical turn of events, the city of DeLand welcomed its youngest mayor, seven-year-old Adeline Faschetti, during a lively city commission meeting. The ceremony, marked by laughter and light-hearted moments, saw Adeline take the oath of office, officially assuming her role as mayor for the day.

City Clerk Doug Julius administered the oath, guiding the young mayor through the formalities with a playful tone. Adeline, who was encouraged to repeat after the clerk, charmed attendees with her innocence as she affirmed her commitment to support the Constitution and the laws of the city and state.

Following the swearing-in, Pastor Mike Carroll led an invocation, praying for wisdom and guidance for the city’s leaders as they navigate various challenges. The meeting proceeded with the Pledge of Allegiance, reinforcing a sense of community and patriotism.

The agenda included a presentation of certificates of recognition to members of Stetson University’s AmeriCorps VISTA program. These volunteers were acknowledged for their significant contributions to combating poverty and enhancing college access within the community. Their efforts included organizing workshops on financial literacy and establishing mentoring programs aimed at supporting underserved populations.
