Bus Service Under Fire for Skipping Stops and Delays

During a recent government meeting, officials approved a resolution for the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) with a unanimous vote of six in favor. The meeting proceeded with no new or old business discussed, leading to a segment dedicated to public comments.

Sean Simone, a resident of South Knoxville, raised concerns regarding the Route 40 bus service, specifically highlighting issues of chronic lateness and drivers failing to secure wheelchair users properly. Simone reported that in the past six months, the bus had skipped stops in their neighborhood on at least six occasions, with the most recent incident occurring just the day before the meeting. He expressed frustration over the lack of communication regarding these service failures, noting that his partner, who relies on the bus, was left waiting in inclement weather without any notice of the bus's deviation from its route.

Simone provided evidence of the bus's erratic behavior, including a screen recording showing the bus going off its designated path. He questioned whether there was a policy allowing drivers to skip stops to save time, emphasizing the negative impact this had on their trust in the service.

The meeting concluded with assurances that staff would follow up with Simone to address his concerns. Another attendee, Theresa Bradley, introduced herself but was unclear about the meeting's agenda, indicating a need for better communication regarding public meetings and their purposes.
