City launches ambitious projects to transform community spaces

Planning and environmental phases for several infrastructure projects are nearing completion, with design and construction set to commence in the next fiscal year. The city has allocated $1.3 million for core testing, crack sealing, and street reconstruction, funded through certificates of obligation. Additionally, engineering services for upcoming projects, including the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) street paving and Canada Street improvements, have been supported by ARPA grant revenue.

In a significant development, the city has transformed the former Cherokee Ranch clubhouse into a new civic center, which is now complete and operational, funded by $1.5 million in tax anticipation notes.

Parks projects have also seen progress, with funding from ARPA and the Texas Parks and Wildlife branch, as well as proceeds from the sale of lake lots previously known as Moana's Park. The Buckner Park project has been completed, while the Hazel Tilton project is currently under review due to budgetary concerns. Major renovations at Lincoln Park are ongoing, with further improvements planned. Construction for the Lake Jacksonville boating access concession park is also anticipated to move forward soon.
