Residents demand urgent action on dangerous Brookwood bridges

Residents of Brookwood Subdivision voiced urgent concerns during a recent government meeting regarding safety and infrastructure issues in their neighborhood. The discussions highlighted two primary areas of concern: visibility at the intersection of Lakeshore and Forest Hill Road, and the deteriorating condition of two critical bridges within the subdivision.

A representative from Brookwood emphasized the difficulty drivers face when turning left from Lakeshore onto Forest Hill due to obstructed views caused by overgrown vegetation and debris. This issue is compounded by the presence of trash and limbs that hinder visibility, making it dangerous for residents navigating the area.

Additionally, the representative raised alarms about the structural integrity of two bridges that span creeks within Brookwood. Both bridges are reportedly at risk of collapse, which poses a significant threat to residents, especially during flooding events that can render the neighborhood inaccessible.

Larry Armstrong, president of the Brookwood Homeowners Association, echoed these concerns, calling for immediate assistance from local authorities to address the cleanup of the area and the maintenance of the bridges. He noted that the community is actively working to keep the neighborhood clean but requires support to manage illegal dumping and ensure proper signage and visibility at critical intersections.

In response, city officials acknowledged the issues raised and indicated that they are working on emergency measures to address the bridge concerns. They also mentioned ongoing efforts to combat illegal dumping in the area, with a dedicated division focused on enforcement and community enhancement.
