Veteran's Legacy Honored as Medal of Honor Fight Continues

During a recent government meeting, heartfelt tributes were paid to local veterans, highlighting their significant contributions to the community and the nation. The discussion began with a remembrance of Bob, an Air Force veteran and photo mapper, who served with the 144th Fighter Wing at Hammer Field, now known as the Fresno Air Terminal. His dedication to the city and its safety was acknowledged, with attendees expressing that he would be deeply missed.

The meeting also featured a notable recognition of Philip Conrad, a Vietnam War veteran and helicopter pilot, who has been submitted for the Congressional Medal of Honor. Conrad's courageous actions during the war, including directing artillery fire and rescuing fellow troops after being shot down, were emphasized. Despite being awarded the Air Force Cross for his bravery, he has yet to receive the nation's highest military honor due to the classified nature of his missions in Laos. Efforts are ongoing to rectify this oversight.

The gathering also included other veterans, such as Doug Hamilton from the U.S. Navy, Thomas Schindler from the U.S. Army, and Michael Gravelis, all of whom have combat experience and have been wounded in service. Their presence underscored the meeting's focus on honoring those who have served and sacrificed for their country.
