Testimony reveals underage alcohol sales at local bar

In a recent government meeting, key discussions centered around allegations against the Thirsty Cactus Salon, owned by Craig Silver, regarding underage alcohol sales. The meeting began with a review of the summons and complaints, which included two confirmed incidents of underage sales occurring on November 30, 2023, and April 8, 2024. A third incident from August 25, 2023, involving an individual identified by initials, was contested by Silver.

Both Silver and bartender Mary Marcus acknowledged the accuracy of the first two counts but expressed embarrassment over the incidents, emphasizing their commitment to responsible service. Silver stated that all bartenders are trained to check IDs and that he has implemented strict policies to prevent underage sales. He noted that despite the violations, he has reiterated the importance of these policies to his staff following each incident.

The meeting also included a procedural element where witnesses were sworn in to provide testimony regarding the allegations. Prosecuting attorney Mister Serwan indicated that despite the admissions, the committee still sought to gather further information about the incidents.

Silver, who has operated the Thirsty Cactus Salon for over a year, detailed the establishment's practices, including staff training and policies for serving intoxicated patrons. He expressed regret over the violations, stating that maintaining a responsible environment is a priority for his business.

The meeting concluded with a consensus among committee members to allow Silver and Marcus to present their case after the prosecution's evidence is presented, ensuring a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
