City gears up for thrilling mountain bike racing weekend

Mountain bike racing is set to return to Arrowhead this weekend, with the Eastern States Cup race day scheduled for Sunday, July 14th. Practice runs will take place on Saturday, July 13th, starting at 9 AM. Spectators are encouraged to attend, with reminders to wear hiking shoes and come prepared for food options available from local food trucks and the Arrowhead Recreation Club throughout the weekend. The Arrowhead Beer Garden, sponsored by Nick's, will also be open, with proceeds benefiting the Arrowhead Recreation Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to the racing event, the city is preparing for the National Night Out on August 6th from 4 to 7 PM on Pleasant Street, involving the police department and Parks and Recreation.

During the meeting, Mayor Manelli expressed gratitude to the Council for a successful budgeting process, highlighting a modest 0.27% increase in operating expenses. This budget aims to balance community needs without significant cuts, contrasting with neighboring areas experiencing much higher increases. The city is also actively pursuing federal funding for infrastructure improvements, including a recent application for land and water conservation funding to enhance local pickleball and tennis courts.

Upcoming infrastructure projects include the full closure of the 12A bridge over the Sugar River from July 17th to July 19th for necessary steel removal, with detours in place. The Washington Street signal project is nearing completion, and traffic flow will be monitored closely to address any issues. Additionally, waterline replacements on North Street will continue, causing alternating one-way traffic and potential delays.

Lastly, the city will hold an auction on Saturday, July 27th, starting at 10 AM at the Clermont Savings Bank Community Center, featuring 24 tax-deeded properties. An open house will be scheduled prior to the auction, with further details available on the city’s website.
