Officers honored for heroic life-saving actions during overdose

During a recent government meeting, the Sweetwater Police Department recognized Officers Jeremy Lawford and John Breed for their life-saving actions in response to an opioid overdose incident on May 4, 2024. The officers, while on routine patrol, responded to an emergency call regarding an unconscious individual not breathing. Upon arrival, they identified the symptoms of an opioid overdose and promptly administered multiple doses of Narcan, stabilizing the patient until emergency medical services arrived. Lieutenant Eric Medina nominated the officers for life-saving awards, highlighting their quick thinking and dedication to community safety.

The meeting also addressed the upcoming year’s health benefits for employees. Nancy, a representative, provided an overview of the bid proposals for health, dental, and vision benefits for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. The city had solicited competitive bids two months prior, and the responses were reviewed during the session. Notably, bids for life and disability insurance were not included, as those are secured under a long-term rate guarantee. The discussions underscored the city’s commitment to providing comprehensive health benefits for its employees while recognizing the critical role of first responders in safeguarding the community.
