Columbia Riverkeeper vows to challenge refinery approval

Columbia Riverkeeper has voiced strong opposition to items l and m on the consent agenda concerning the proposed next refinery and associated railyard. During a recent government meeting, representatives from the organization highlighted community concerns that the development would conflict with existing agricultural practices in the area. They emphasized the importance of involving local farmers, who manage the dikes and drainage systems, in the decision-making process.

The organization argued that Port Westward is neither a safe nor suitable location for such a large-scale refinery and railyard. Should the board approve the findings related to the project, Columbia Riverkeeper plans to challenge the decision at Oregon's Land Use Board of Appeals. The meeting concluded with a call for additional comments from the online audience, but no further input was received.
