Community rallies to save animals as council considers ordinance

During a recent city council meeting, community member Rebecca Quinn urged officials to reconsider an ordinance affecting animal fostering and rescue efforts. Quinn, representing a local animal rescue initiative, highlighted the community's proactive response to animal welfare needs, stating that volunteers have successfully fostered and transported animals to new homes at their own expense. She requested that the council table the ordinance to allow the community to demonstrate its commitment to animal rescue.

City Manager Dan provided several updates, including the status of the Camino development application, which is still under review and expected to be presented in August. He reported on a successful leadership development initiative that introduced a new mission statement to city staff, which was well-received. Additionally, he announced the establishment of regular meetings with TxDOT to discuss local infrastructure projects, including improvements to the Meridiana Parkway intersection.

The council also discussed the upcoming Manville Market, set for August 3, and the Fourth Fest event, a collaborative celebration with Iowa Colony, scheduled for this Thursday. The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote to approve the consent agenda before moving into executive session to discuss real property matters. The council reconvened later without taking any action.
