Community rallies for military families at annual rodeo event

During a recent government meeting, officials extended their best wishes to a retiring member, highlighting his successful tenure and contributions. The meeting also focused on the upcoming 17th Annual Family Fun Night at the Cavalry Rodeo, scheduled for Thursday. This event will cater to military service members and their families, featuring a complimentary dinner provided by Chick-fil-A and a concert by the 180 Rock Band. Over 1,500 tickets are available for military personnel, veterans, and their families, with a streamlined online registration process to facilitate attendance.

In addition to the rodeo preparations, the meeting included updates from the health department. Julie Gibbs reported on the department's activities for June, noting a total of 342 appointments and 181 immunizations administered. The department participated in the Juneteenth festival, although attendance was lower than expected. They also organized a vaccination clinic for students, with plans for another in August to improve participation.

Looking ahead, the health department is partnering with the Sunflower Health Plan to launch a \"Shoes for Shots\" initiative, incentivizing vaccinations with a pair of shoes for participants. This collaboration aims to enhance vaccination rates among covered members without impacting the department's existing operations.
