Pasadena honors legacy of beloved civil engineer Mitsuki Hino

During a recent Pasadena city council meeting, the mayor and council members celebrated the achievements of local youth participating in the revamped Summer Rose program, which aims to prepare them for future careers in law enforcement. The program includes 80 hours of training with the Pasadena Police Department, followed by 40 hours of ride-alongs. The highlight of the program will be a PowerPoint presentation by the participants, showcasing their vision boards, scheduled for this Thursday.

The mayor expressed pride in the students, who attend various local high schools, including John Muir and Marshall Fundamental, and commended their interest in serving the community. The program received strong support from Police Chief Gene Harris and the department's command staff, emphasizing the collaborative effort to engage youth in civic service.

In a more somber moment, Council Member Masuda requested the meeting be adjourned in memory of Mitsuki Hino, a civil engineer who dedicated 32 years to Pasadena's Public Works. Hino was recognized for his significant contributions, including the retrofit of the historic Colorado Street Bridge. Masuda shared personal anecdotes about Hino, highlighting his leadership and commitment to the city. The council agreed to honor Hino's memory and contributions, planning to send a letter of recognition to his family.
