Riley County launches innovative campaign to support United Way

Riley County has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Kansas United Way through an ambitious campaign set for August 2024. During a recent government meeting, officials outlined a series of engaging activities aimed at raising funds and awareness for the organization, which focuses on addressing the root causes of community issues.

The county has a long-standing partnership with Kansas United Way, which had seen a decline in participation during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, efforts were revitalized in 2022, leading to a successful campaign that raised $7,636 in pledges this year. The upcoming campaign will kick off on September 17, 2024, with Riley County participating in the Pacesetter program, which includes eight organizations that will launch their campaigns early to generate excitement.

The proposed activities for the August campaign include educational presentations by United Way Director Tara Claussen, a bake sale, a baby picture guessing game, and a unique \"flamingo flocking\" event where employees can donate to move flamingo cutouts between workspaces. Additionally, employees will have the opportunity to wear jeans and United Way T-shirts for a donation, with the department showing the highest participation receiving a celebratory lunch.

To further incentivize contributions, both Commissioner Ford and another official have pledged to match donations up to $1,000, effectively tripling the impact of individual pledges. The campaign aims to foster community spirit while supporting a vital local organization, with the commissioners unanimously approving the proposal during the meeting.
