In a heartfelt ceremony, the Summit School District bid farewell to three beloved educators—Tom, Deirdre Kennedy, and Pam Kinney—who are retiring after decades of dedicated service.

Tom, who has spent 40 years in education, was celebrated for his unwavering commitment to excellence and high expectations for his students. Colleagues reminisced about his engaging stories from personal travels, including a memorable wedding mishap and an unexpected encounter during a honeymoon in Hawaii. His early morning preparations and consistent presence at school have left a lasting impact on both students and staff.

Deirdre Kennedy, with over 30 years in education, was recognized for her authenticity and directness. Her colleagues praised her as a master teacher and a cherished friend, highlighting her dedication to mentoring students and organizing community service initiatives. Kennedy’s legacy is further enriched by her family ties to Summit, as her late father served as the principal of Summit High School for 27 years.

Pam Kinney, known for her vibrant personality and innovative teaching methods, was described as a quintessential primary teacher who brought joy and creativity to her classroom. Her colleagues shared anecdotes of her playful spirit, including dressing up as a princess and orchestrating elaborate pranks. Kinney's contributions extended beyond the classroom, as she initiated district-wide events that fostered community engagement.

As these educators embark on their new chapters, the Summit community expressed deep gratitude for their years of service, wishing them health, happiness, and many more adventures ahead.
