Traffic congestion sparks urgent call for new road solutions

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the ongoing traffic challenges on Price's Fork Road, particularly in light of three significant development projects: The Preserve, North Star Church, and West Hill. Traffic studies conducted for these projects revealed that the current volume of traffic necessitates the construction of additional turn lanes to ensure safe access.

The analysis indicated that while the intersections do not meet the thresholds for signals or roundabouts, the density of traffic requires a left turn lane for vehicles heading towards Blacksburg. This is particularly crucial during peak hours, as the heavy traffic flow complicates left turns from Bridal Fork Road. Consequently, developers will be required to construct a left turn lane at the main access point across from Brunswick, along with right turn tapers for other entrances.

Officials also addressed concerns regarding traffic flow and access points. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) standards dictate the necessary spacing for intersections based on road classification, which has influenced the design of the access points. The main entrance will facilitate traffic from the west, primarily benefiting those traveling from the Blacksburg area, while also managing the flow of trucks during peak morning hours.
