Community mourns loss of beloved leader Paul Scheller

During a recent council meeting, members paid tribute to the late Paul Scheller, a prominent figure in the Novato community who passed away on June 4, 2024, at the age of 92. Council member Eklund led the remembrance, sharing heartfelt reflections on Scheller's extensive contributions to the city and its residents.

Scheller, known affectionately as \"Mr. Novato,\" was a lifelong resident who played a pivotal role in local development and community service. He co-founded Sheller Brothers Construction in 1959, which later became Sheller Construction, and remained active in the business until his retirement in 1998. His commitment to Novato extended beyond his professional life; he was deeply involved in various community organizations, including Rotary International, where he served as president in 1981-82.

Eklund highlighted Scheller's volunteer work, noting his contributions to senior housing projects and local initiatives such as the Miwok Museum and the Boys and Girls Club of Novato. His dedication earned him the title of Novato Citizen of the Year in 1975, and he was remembered for his unwavering willingness to assist others.

Council member Warnecke echoed these sentiments, describing Scheller as a \"rock star\" who embodied the spirit of Novato. She recalled his significant role in the establishment of North Marin Community Services and praised his compassionate nature, particularly during challenging times for families in the community.

The council's tribute underscored the profound impact Scheller had on Novato, with members expressing their condolences to his wife Edna and their family. The meeting concluded with a collective acknowledgment of Scheller's legacy, emphasizing the void his passing leaves in the community.
