Denver plans bold update to revitalize downtown area

In a recent government meeting, city officials outlined the framework for updating the downtown area plan, emphasizing the need for a vibrant, inclusive neighborhood that addresses current challenges and emerging trends. The presentation highlighted four key goals: creating a complete neighborhood, building on existing plans, addressing gaps in guidance, and ensuring the plan is action-oriented.

The planned boundary for the update will focus on lower downtown and the central business district, areas identified as needing updated zoning regulations. Adjacent neighborhoods, including the Golden Triangle and Ballpark, will also be considered, with an emphasis on mobility and quality of life improvements.

Officials acknowledged the importance of community engagement, particularly from neighborhoods directly impacted by downtown developments. A community outreach plan will be developed to ensure diverse voices are included in the planning process. The partnership with the Downtown Denver Partnership (DDP) was noted, with DDP contributing 50% of the funding for the project.

The meeting also addressed the selection process for the consulting firm Sasaki, which was chosen through a competitive procurement process. The timeline for the project includes a final public hearing scheduled for July 29 and a kickoff event anticipated in September.
