Firefighters Honored for Decades of Heroic Service

In a recent government meeting, Lake Elsinore officials reported a notable decrease in fireworks-related incidents during the Fourth of July celebrations, with a 14% drop in overall citations compared to previous years. The city's traffic division and specialized teams issued 42 citations, primarily in the downtown area, and seized approximately 150 pounds of illegal fireworks. Following the holiday, the bomb squad was called in to safely dispose of the confiscated materials.

The meeting also featured a heartfelt recognition of local heroes, Battalion Chief Scott Weatherholt and Battalion Chief Jeff Roberts, who were honored for their decades of service with CAL FIRE and the Riverside County Fire Department. Weatherholt, who has served for over 20 years, expressed gratitude for the support from the city council and community, highlighting the growth and improvements in fire safety during his tenure. Roberts, with 30 years of service, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the challenges faced by firefighters beyond battling blazes, including medical emergencies and community safety.
