County awards major bridge contracts amid flooding crisis

In a recent government meeting, the Blue Earth County Board awarded a construction bid to R&E Enterprises of Mankato for a project totaling $151,352, which is notably above the engineer's estimate of $124,933. Despite the significant percentage increase, officials emphasized that the overall financial impact remains manageable due to prior purchases related to the project.

The meeting also provided updates on various ongoing infrastructure projects. The bridge over the Blue Earth River on County State Highway 13 has opened to local traffic, while drainage work continues on multiple roads, albeit hindered by recent heavy rainfall. Notably, the grading work has progressed more slowly than anticipated.

Upcoming projects include a bridge replacement on County Road 29, with bids expected to open in mid-August, and a bridge replacement on County Road 146 set to begin construction shortly. Funding for several bridge projects has been secured, with a total project cost nearing $730,000 for County Road 139, which is slated for bidding this fall.
