In a recent government meeting, an application for retroactive design review approval for security shutters at 355 East 200th Street was discussed. The property, located in a U22 family district, is home to the Euclid Mini Mart, which has been undergoing changes following a break-in incident in 2021.
David Barala from DHA Architects represented the applicant, Mr. Kula, explaining that the security shutters were installed without a permit after the break-in. The application seeks to formalize this installation and includes plans for a new entrance to the store, which will replace an existing one.
The planning and zoning commission had previously reviewed the project and granted approval during their August meeting. The property itself is an 8,800 square foot multi-tenant shopping plaza built in 1957, and the current application also involves expanding the footprint of the Euclid Mini Mart into an adjacent space.
Chris Gabelli, a staff member, provided additional context, noting that the case had been referred to the architectural review board for compliance with the vehicle zoning code's design guidelines for security shutters. The meeting underscored the importance of adhering to local regulations while addressing security concerns for businesses in the area.
