Residents demand urgent action on stormwater management issues

Residents of the new subdivision are raising concerns about the state of the stormwater management system as the acceptance of a new road approaches. During a recent government meeting, a resident detailed a series of unresolved issues related to the punch list dated May 5, 2023, which outlines necessary repairs and maintenance before the road can be officially accepted.

Key issues highlighted include improperly adjusted water curb stops, which remain significantly elevated above the lawn grade, and persistent ponding water in roadside swales. The resident reported that water has been sitting in front of one property for several days following rain, indicating inadequate drainage. Additionally, swales at both entrances of the subdivision are again filled with sediment and cattails, despite having been cleaned out just a year prior.

The resident emphasized that these maintenance issues must be addressed before the road's acceptance, citing specific items from the punch list that remain incomplete. Among these are the need for cleaning sediment from swales, ensuring proper drainage to catch basins, and addressing accessibility issues for maintenance vehicles to reach drainage ponds.

Concerns were also raised about the condition of bio-retention ponds, which are overgrown with trees and debris, and the detention pond behind one property, which has never been maintained. The resident urged local officials to delay the acceptance of the road until these critical stormwater management issues are resolved, highlighting the potential implications for future maintenance and property conditions in the area.
