City Council Debates Expansion of Popular Pickleball Courts

During a recent city council meeting, discussions centered on the growing demand for pickleball courts in the community, highlighting the need for balance between tennis and pickleball facilities. Council members expressed support for expanding existing courts, particularly at Alderwood Park, while addressing concerns about flooding issues at potential new sites like Mapleton Park.

Council member DeForest noted that the B Street station, which currently has two pickleball courts, faces limitations for expansion due to drainage requirements that have resulted in the courts being too close together. Suggestions were made to possibly install a fence to improve the playing conditions.

The council acknowledged the popularity of pickleball, with one member recounting a recent event where the topic garnered enthusiastic applause compared to discussions on high-density development. This reflects the community's strong interest in recreational activities.

In addition to the pickleball discussions, council members shared updates on various community events, including the Old Town Music Festival and the city’s birthday bash, which celebrated Murrieta's 33rd anniversary.
