Water district vows action on Murrieta groundwater crisis

During a recent city council meeting, Andy Morris, a board member of the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District, addressed ongoing water seepage concerns affecting residents of Erin Court in Murrieta. The issue, which has garnered media attention, has caused significant distress among the local community.

Morris emphasized the district's commitment to transparency and empathy in handling the situation. He provided key updates on the water quality investigations conducted by the district. On April 15, water samples were taken from various locations in the affected area, and lab results confirmed that the water did not match the quality of public drinking water. A follow-up sampling on June 17 further validated that the water saturating the properties was indicative of groundwater, not from the district's drinking water system.

Since the initial report in March 2023, the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District has responded promptly to residents' concerns, conducting thorough investigations and visiting the neighborhood at least 13 times. Morris noted that he has personally engaged with residents to keep them informed about the district's efforts.

Looking ahead, Morris assured residents that the district is dedicated to collaborating with all stakeholders, including the city of Murrieta, to develop a sustainable solution to the groundwater issue affecting the community.
