In a recent government meeting, San Juan County officials discussed a significant statewide opioid settlement agreement, marking a pivotal step in the ongoing efforts to address the opioid crisis. Since November 2018, the county has been involved in national opioid litigation, which has now culminated in a settlement agreement with Kroger, amounting to approximately $24 million over 11 years.
The prosecuting attorney's office sought authorization to accept the county's portion of this settlement, although specific financial details remain to be determined. The health department has been authorized to execute all necessary documents related to the settlement.
During the meeting, a motion was made and seconded to accept the Kroger Company settlement agreement, with Health and Community Services Director Mark Tompkins designated to handle the execution of the required documents. The motion passed unanimously, reflecting a collective commitment to addressing the opioid epidemic in the region.
Additionally, the meeting included updates from officials, who expressed enthusiasm about their recent activities, including staff meetings and facility tours, aimed at better understanding county priorities and enhancing community engagement.
