Residents demand urgent action on dangerous intersections and lighting

Residents of Lincoln Avenue and Forest voiced concerns during a recent government meeting regarding inadequate street lighting and traffic safety issues. One resident highlighted the dimness of a gas light at the intersection, which poses a danger for drivers and pedestrians alike, suggesting that the light should be strengthened or replaced to prevent potential accidents.

The resident also raised a longstanding issue at the intersection of Ogden and Joliet Road, where left turns into Riverside have become increasingly difficult, especially due to a closed bridge. They proposed the installation of a dedicated left-turn signal to alleviate the problem, noting that it can take multiple light cycles to make the turn.

Additionally, concerns were expressed about excessive water bills in a local condo complex. The resident reported that despite thorough checks for leaks and plumbing issues, the water usage remains high. They requested an investigation into the water meter's accuracy to determine if it might be faulty.

In response, officials acknowledged the issues raised, particularly the traffic concerns at Ogden and Joliet Road, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Village of Lyons. They noted past efforts to address the intersection's challenges and confirmed that IDOT is currently reviewing the situation for potential improvements. The village staff will also look into the water billing concerns raised by the resident.
