Board meeting honors fallen students and staff with moment of silence

The Board of Education convened on June 11th at East English Village Preparatory Academy, following the adjournment of a budget hearing. The meeting began with a roll call confirming a quorum, with all board members present.

Chairperson Angelique Peterson Mayberry emphasized the importance of respectful participation during the public meeting. The board observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of Elijah Reese, a 10th grader who tragically passed away, and Cecil Forbes, Sr., a retired teacher with 33 years of service in the district. Additionally, the board acknowledged a fatal incident involving a contractor at one of the schools, expressing condolences to the affected families.

As the meeting progressed, the board noted the absence of student performances due to the summer break but welcomed Denbigh High School's color guard and played recorded renditions of \"Lift Every Voice and Sing\" and the \"Star Spangled Banner\" in their honor. The meeting underscored the community's commitment to remembering those lost and fostering a respectful environment for public discourse.
