In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the county's timber sales, revealing significant revenue projections and updates on ongoing contracts. Currently, there are seven timber sales under contract, expected to generate approximately $9.2 million in revenue by October 31, 2026. To date, about $5.15 million has already been paid from these sales.
As of this fiscal year, the county has received over $1.4 million, with an additional $1.6 million anticipated to be wired shortly. Officials expressed confidence that another $1.2 million will be collected by the end of the calendar year, bolstered by four timber sales set to expire soon, which are not expected to require extensions.
One notable development is the activation of a previously anticipated sale, which could yield an additional $689,000. Overall, projections suggest that the county could see around $4.9 million in total revenue from timber sales this year, surpassing earlier estimates of $4 million.
Looking ahead, officials cautioned that next year may see a decline in revenue, estimating around $1.5 million, contingent on market conditions and the expiration of one sale. This year, however, is shaping up to be one of the most lucrative in decades, with officials optimistic about the county's timber revenue outlook.
