City Council Delays Senior Living Project Amid Community Concerns

During a recent government meeting, the commission addressed the Lakewood Senior Living Plan Development, which involves a proposed 56-unit senior living facility on a 2.9-acre site located on Jimmy Ann Drive. The project requires a zoning change from Multi-Family Residential to Plan Development General, and was initially set for a second reading.

However, Commissioner Henry proposed to postpone the discussion to the next meeting, citing concerns raised by residents of the nearby Cardinal Estates community. Henry emphasized the importance of addressing these concerns directly with the developer to ensure that residents feel heard and comfortable with the project. He noted that some residents had received incomplete information regarding the development, which heightened their apprehensions.

The developer, represented by attorney Niko Hosseini, expressed a desire to address community concerns immediately, highlighting that they had previously held a well-attended neighborhood meeting and had communicated intentions through a follow-up letter. Hosseini argued that delaying the discussion could lead to the same concerns being raised again at the next meeting, potentially impacting the project's financing timeline.

The commission ultimately decided to continue the item to the next meeting, allowing for further dialogue between the developer and the affected residents.
