Community leader demands rethink on controversial sidewalk expansion

During a recent government meeting, community concerns regarding proposed changes to the 175 corridor were prominently discussed. Pat Kenny, a resident from the Parkwood neighborhood in Shoreline, expressed strong opposition to the plan, which includes the installation of 13-foot-wide sidewalks and the removal of numerous trees.

Kenny emphasized the need to reconsider the width of the sidewalks, arguing that while pedestrian infrastructure is important, the current proposal is excessive for the area. He highlighted that the street is primarily designed for automobile traffic, particularly for commuters traveling to and from the I-5 freeway.

He pointed out that congestion on I-5 often leads to backups on 175, causing frustrated drivers to navigate through yellow lights, which poses risks for cross traffic. Kenny urged officials to take these factors into account when finalizing the plans, advocating for a balanced approach that considers both pedestrian needs and the realities of vehicular traffic in the area.
