Lyon County Schools adopt crucial head injury policy

During a recent Lyon County School District (LCSD) board meeting, officials introduced a new policy aimed at preventing and treating head injuries among students, particularly in sports. This initiative stems from Senate Bill 80, passed during the 2023 legislative session, which mandates that all school districts and charter schools in Nevada develop comprehensive policies addressing head injuries.

Deputy Superintendent Tim Logan and Executive Director of Human Resources Dawn Huckaby presented the policy, emphasizing its importance for student safety. The policy outlines procedures for handling head injuries, including concussions, which can occur during school activities or in the community. It requires signatures from both parents and students before participation in sports, ensuring that families are informed about the risks involved.
