Construction update reveals ambitious school renovation plans

During a recent government meeting, officials provided an update on the ongoing construction projects following the successful bond election held by Southwestern County Schools last November. The election authorized $200 million for school expansions and renovations, with two bond questions passing—$160 million for the first and $40 million for the second.

The meeting highlighted the progress of various school designs, particularly focusing on Woodbury High School. Architects from Wold and Coma presented detailed plans for the school's renovations, which include significant improvements to traffic flow, kitchen and cafeteria facilities, and the addition of a secure vestibule. The design aims to enhance the overall functionality of the school, with a focus on creating a more collaborative environment for both students and staff.

Key features of the renovation include a redesigned main office located centrally for better accessibility, upgraded science labs, and a revamped media center. The architects emphasized the importance of stakeholder input in the design process, which has led to adjustments in the preliminary plans to better meet the needs of the school community.

The construction timeline remains on track, with completion expected for various projects by the fall of 2026 for middle schools and by 2027 for high schools. The meeting underscored the commitment to improving educational facilities in the district, ensuring that the renovations align with the promises made during the bond referendum.
