Community divided over proposed children's party venue

During a recent government meeting, community concerns were raised regarding a proposed zoning exemption for a children's birthday venue on Norton Branch Road. Jana Robinson, leader of the Beach Grove Community Group, voiced strong opposition, citing safety issues related to the narrow roadway and low visibility at the intersection with Gosberg Road, which is also known as State Road 64. Robinson highlighted her personal experiences with accidents in the area and emphasized that the road cannot accommodate increased traffic from a venue that could attract numerous visitors.

The applicant, Julian Abeba, responded to the concerns, explaining that the venue would primarily host children's parties and would not involve alcohol or large gatherings. He indicated that he and his wife envisioned a space for children to enjoy outdoor activities, including interactions with animals on their property. Abeba estimated that they would host two to three events per month, with a maximum of 50 attendees per event.

However, community members expressed skepticism about the feasibility of parking and managing traffic, given the existing conditions of the road, which is prone to deterioration and has limited capacity. Concerns were also raised about the potential for increased traffic from neighboring farms and the safety of children near a creek on the property.

The discussion concluded with a motion to table the decision until the next meeting, allowing for further review and input from absent officials who could provide additional insights on the matter. The community remains divided, with many advocating for a thorough examination of the implications of the proposed venue on local safety and infrastructure.
