Legislators brace for pivotal one-day special session

During a recent government meeting, key discussions centered around housing inventory and upcoming legislative sessions in Seward County. The Seward County Development Corporation has partnered with Bobby Petty from 5 Rural Planning in Kearney, Nebraska, to conduct a comprehensive housing study aimed at assessing the current housing market. This study will provide insights into the types and availability of homes in the area, including those not listed on the multiple listing service.

A kickoff event for the housing study is scheduled for June 28 at the Bluebonnet Community Building, with invitations sent out to local officials. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP by June 25.

In personnel updates, Steve Epperson has been appointed CEO of Sunflower, while Lindsay Campbell has taken on the CEO role at Southern Pioneer. A meet-and-greet lunch is planned for June 21 at Seward County Community College, providing an opportunity for community members to engage with the new CEOs.

Additionally, the Kansas Legislature is set to reconvene for a special session called by Governor Kelly, marking the 26th such session in state history. This one-day session, beginning at 9 AM, may address various legislative topics, including economic development incentives related to the Starbond program. There has been some hesitation regarding the original proposal for these incentives, prompting a reassessment to garner broader support.
