Community volunteers shine during critical water distribution event

During a recent city council meeting, officials highlighted the commendable volunteer efforts of local youth, known as Explorers, who played a crucial role in a recent water distribution event. The council member praised the Explorers for their reliability and ability to adapt to the demands of the situation, noting that their presence was instrumental in managing traffic and ensuring the smooth operation of the event.

In addition to recognizing community volunteerism, the council discussed upcoming Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training scheduled for August 14. While the class will be conducted in English, there is a pressing need for Spanish-speaking instructors due to a countywide shortage. City officials are actively seeking qualified instructors to meet community demand.

The meeting also addressed the city’s broadband expansion plans. A council member raised concerns about the routing of fiber connections, which will now run along Santa Barbara Street instead of the initially proposed rail corridor. City officials explained that this change was necessary due to equipment limitations and the existing infrastructure that would facilitate better connectivity and economic development.
