City plans bold Vision Zero initiative to enhance safety

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the planning process for upcoming projects, emphasizing the importance of clearly defining ownership and operational strategies. The team plans to conduct further research and will present a draft Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) for 2025 in November or December, allowing for a thorough evaluation of ideas generated during the discussions.

In addition to planning updates, the meeting included a progress report on the Vision Zero Transportation Safety Action Plan. Officials highlighted extensive community engagement efforts in Lawrence, Eudora, and Baldwin City, where they have distributed flyers and conducted surveys to gather public input. The survey period has been extended through the end of July to ensure broader participation. The steering committee will continue to analyze the data collected and facilitate ongoing discussions to enhance transportation safety initiatives.
